How do I create a cleaning task?
Create turnover cleaning tasks at STR > Cleaning, assign a cleaner, and track completion.
Purpose
Every short-term rental checkout needs a turnover clean before the next guest. Rentivue tracks cleaning as tasks tied to properties and reservations, assigned to cleaners, with status you can see at a glance.
Who can use this
Admins and property managers create and assign tasks; cleaners see and complete their assigned tasks. Requires the Short-Term Rental module.
Steps
- 1Go to STR > Cleaning (/str/cleaning).
- 2Click to create a new cleaning task.
- 3Select the property. If the clean follows a checkout, link the reservation so the task carries the checkout date and next check-in.
- 4Set the date and time window the clean must happen in — usually between checkout and the next check-in.
- 5Assign the cleaner (an internal cleaner or a cleaning vendor).
- 6Add notes for anything unusual: late checkout, deep-clean items, supplies to restock.
- 7Save. The cleaner sees the task on their list.
- 8The cleaner marks the task complete when done; flag any damage or missing items found during the clean.
- 9If the clean has a cost (external cleaner fee), record it so it flows to the owner statement as an expense.
Important notes
- Checkout-driven cleans should be created for every reservation — a consistent turnover flow is what keeps back-to-back bookings safe.
- The guest-paid cleaning fee (on the reservation) and the cleaner's cost (on the task) are separate amounts; statements can show both sides.
- Cleaners only see tasks assigned to them — see the troubleshooting article "Cleaner cannot see task" if something is missing.
Common mistakes
- Scheduling a clean after the next guest's check-in time.
- Not recording the cleaning cost, so the owner statement misses it.
FAQ
- Can cleaning tasks be created automatically per checkout?
- Keep your turnover workflow in STR > Cleaning; where automation is enabled for your company, checkout tasks are generated for confirmed reservations — verify in your cleaning list.
