Why can't I see a menu or feature?
The five causes of a missing menu: module off, missing permission, role limits, wrong company, or plan limits.
Purpose
The most common question in Rentivue: a menu or button someone else has is not on your screen. There are exactly five causes — check them in order and you will find it.
Answer
A menu or feature is visible only when ALL of these are true: the module is enabled for the company, your role grants the permission, no per-user deny overrides it, you are in the right company, and your subscription plan includes it.
Steps
- 1CAUSE 1 — the module is off. An admin checks Settings > Modules & Features (/settings/modules). If the module is disabled, its menus are hidden for EVERYONE. Fix: enable the module (mind dependency warnings).
- 2CAUSE 2 — you lack the permission. Your role may not include the feature's read permission. Fix: an admin reviews your role and permission overrides under Settings > Users.
- 3CAUSE 3 — a per-user deny override. Even with the right role, an explicit deny on your user wins. Fix: an admin removes the deny override on your user's permissions.
- 4CAUSE 4 — wrong company. Modules and roles are per company; you may be looking at a company where the feature is off or your role is smaller. Fix: switch companies via the header selector and check again.
- 5CAUSE 5 — subscription plan. Some modules are gated by plan entitlements. Fix: an admin checks Settings > Subscription for what the current plan includes.
Important notes
- Hidden never means deleted. Data behind a disabled module or missing permission is intact.
- Owners/partners have a separate portal with per-owner permissions — for an owner who cannot see something, check the owner profile's portal checklist instead (see "What can a partner / owner see in the portal?").
- Server-side enforcement matches the UI: if you cannot see it, you also cannot reach it by URL.
FAQ
- The module is on and I have the role — still nothing?
- Check cause 3 (deny override) and cause 4 (company), then see the troubleshooting article "Module is on but the menu is hidden".
