Troubleshooting

Module is on but the menu is hidden

The module toggle is on, yet a user still cannot see the menu: permission, override, company, plan, or stale session.

Purpose

Settings > Modules & Features says the module is enabled, but a user still cannot see its menu. The module toggle is necessary, not sufficient — user-level gates remain.

Possible causes

  • The user's role lacks the module's read permission.
  • A per-user deny override blocks it (deny always wins).
  • The user is signed into a DIFFERENT company where the module is off or their role is smaller.
  • The subscription plan does not include the module, so the toggle is not effective.
  • A dependency module is off (for example Owner Statements shown as on, but Finance is off).
  • A stale session — the user has not reloaded since the change.

How to check

  1. 1In Settings > Users, open the user and review their effective permissions for the module.
  2. 2Look specifically for deny overrides on the user.
  3. 3Ask the user which company the header shows.
  4. 4Check Settings > Subscription for plan entitlement of the module.
  5. 5Check the module's dependencies on the Modules & Features page.
  6. 6Compare with a user who CAN see the menu — the difference points to the cause.

How to fix

  1. 1Grant the module's read permission via role change or an allow override.
  2. 2Remove the deny override.
  3. 3Have the user switch to the correct company.
  4. 4Upgrade the plan, or accept the module is unavailable on the current plan.
  5. 5Enable the missing dependency module.
  6. 6Have the user sign out and back in after changes.

When to contact support

If the module is enabled, entitled by the plan, dependencies are on, and the user's effective permissions clearly include it, yet the menu still does not render after a fresh login — contact support (category: User permission issue) with the user email, company, and module name.

Important notes

  • Visibility = module ON + permission GRANTED + no deny + right company + plan entitlement. All five, always. See "Why can't I see a menu or feature?" for the full walkthrough.
